Mutahi Kagwe (born January 1958) is a Kenyan politician who has been in service since 2002. He is a Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Health for The Republic of Kenya. Mutahi previously served as the first Senator of Nyeri County in Kenya.

Mutahi Kagwe was born in January 1958 in the Republic of Kenya and was raised by his father and mother in a village in the Kenyan colony. Mutahi had a lot of support from his parents, who had massive value in education and always advised him to be serious with his studies. This support significantly provided him with enough platform for his political career.

Kagwe enrolled and completed his primary school education at Kihafe Primary School, which he attended between 1965 to 1971.

Furthermore, he obtained Ordinary and Advanced Level Results (O & A) from Kagumo High School in Kenya, which he attended between 1971 to 1977. He later proceeded to the University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. Mutahi bagged an MBA in 1992 from the United States International University (USIU).

Career

In 2002, Kagwe was appointed a Member of Parliament for Mukurweini Constituency. He served five years before accepting another appointment to become a Cabinet Minister for Information and Communication.

Mutahi achieved some memorable milestones, including the Construction of the East African Marine System, the Unveiling of Mpesa, the Approval of a Kenyan Built Money Transfer System, the Creation of Early Childhood Education, and the Introduction of The Cyber Security and Protection Bill in Kenya.

He served as the first Senator of Nyeri County and served between 2013 to 2017. Currently, he is the Health Cabinet Secretary in Kenya, where he assumed office in 2020 and was instrumental with Dr. Rashid Aman, Dr. Patrick Arnoth, and Dr. Mercy Mwangangi in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
