At the beginning of his career, the African artiste was signed to HKN Records, a label he started with his elder brother, Adewale Adeleke, also known as ChairmanHKN. In 2016, as he is fondly called, OBO started his separate record label named DMW.
He has spent over ten years in the music industry and has one of the most successful careers by a black artiste, especially an African one at that.
Davido Biography
The Nigerian-American singer and businessman was born on 21 November 1992, David Adedeji Adeleke, also known as Davido, in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States, to Nigerian parents, Chief Adedeji Adeleke and Veronica Adeleke. At the tender age of 11, the singer lost his mum, Vero Adeleke, a university lecturer at that time.
He attended the prestigious British International School, Lekki, Lagos, and moved back to the US at 16 to study business administration at Oakwood University. While he was at this university he found his passion for music. He began making beats and formed a music act with his cousins, Sina Rambo and B-Red.
David Adeleke returned to Nigeria after his father found out he dropped out of university in 2011 and enrolled at Babcock University, where his father started a music department just for him. In July 2015, he graduated from the university with a second-class upper.
After releasing his single Dami Duro, he rose to fame, which rocked the Nigerian and African airwaves. At this period, the artist was signed to HKN Music which he co-founded with his elder brother, Adewale Adeleke.
In 2016, months after he signed a contract with Sony Music for $1 million, he started his record label named Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). He signed acts like Dremo and Mayorkun to the label, and Peruzzi has since joined the label.
Under DMW, with PLUG Media as his management, the musician has been able to shoot for the stars as he has signed lucrative endorsement deals and taken DMW to the next level. On the 31st of March, 2023, he released his fourth studio album, Timeless.
