Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe is the real name of Pretoria-based rapper DJ Maphorisa, who was born on November 15, 1987, in South Africa. The international celebrity disc jockey grew up and was raised in a music-loving family. His mother was a member of a musical congregation, which fueled his enthusiasm for the field. His father is a Nigerian, while his mother is a South African.

While still a rising star, he joined Uhuru, a musically interested group of like-minded individuals. He released his first official single, which was a well-received tune while remaining a group member.

The Mafikizolo group recorded a song called The Sound that featured international superstar Davido. Y-Tjukutja was another popular song they had.
After leaving Kalawa Jazmee Records, he created Blaqboy Music. Stars such as Sha Sha, Myztro Musiq, Lucas Raps, Ma Whoo, Tyler ICU, Mas Musiq, Zingah, Mlindo the Vocalist, Bontle Smith, Daliwonga, and other great artists are/were (depending on their contract terms as at the time you are reading this post) signed to DJ Maphorisa’s record company, Blaqboy Music.
Niniola, Oskido, Kwesta, and Professor Deejay Buckz are among some of the acts to have collaborated with him.
It is important to also state that he played a role in the popular Wizkid’s One Dance with Canadian star Drake, which featured Kayla. This earned him international recognition.
Recently, the celebrity disc jockey has been working closely with Kabza De Small, and together they took the Amapiano genre global.
